Narrative:

Passenger was not taken into custody and arrested, only detained, then allowed by carrier to leave country and return home. No drug, no alcohol test were conducted on assailant. The assailant assaulted a crew member and nothing was done about it. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter states that the incident occurred when he was handing out customs forms to the passenger in his area, shortly after takeoff. The abusive passenger was traveling with his mother and accused the reporter of hitting him when handing him the landing card. The passenger stepped over his mother who was seated next to him and proceeded to assault the reporter in the aisle. The reporter suffered a concussion, black eye, bite marks, bleeding and swelling. The first officer came and escorted the reporter to the cockpit. The PIC decided not to return to land despite a request from the reporter for medical attention and to deplane the passenger that assaulted him. The reporter remained in the cockpit for the duration of the 8.5 hour flight. The fbi, miami policy and passenger services of the airline met the aircraft. The fbi released the passenger stating to the reporter that his airline did not want the publicity despite the witnesses to the assault that came forward to attest to the event. Reporter went to the hospital upon arrival. Reporter states that he received no support from the airline or the union when he requested it. When he requested counseling he was told he would have to pay for it. He now is dealing with post traumatic stress syndrome and is concerned with the repercussions from the assault.
