Narrative:

While gathering our personal effects in hnl, flight attendant #4 discovered his flight attendant bag was missing, then misplaced. When he looked through his bag he discovered that his wallet, passport, and 2 chkbooks were missing. At this time I was made aware of a situation that had occurred in-flight in first class with a family. The son became suspect in the theft. Flight attendant #4 and I proceeded to baggage claim to ask them if they knew what may have happened. Mind you, flight attendant #4 and I discussed on the way to baggage claim to ask 'non accusatory' questions. Flight attendant #4 asked the family if they had seen anyone get in the bags behind seats XXX because his items were missing. He said a flight attendant was back there changing shoes. He did say the bag flight attendant #4 had with him was at his feet and he moved it when the PA stated to stow items. Flight attendant #4 said it was behind the seats. The family said the bag was at his feet so he moved it. Flight attendant #4 asked him if he saw who put the bag at his feet. He said it was just there. We stepped aside and I told flight attendant #4 to watch them and I went to get security and the honolulu police. They came and asked flight attendant #4 what happened. He told him what happened. I went to the baggage agent and asked for a lost and found form and told her to alert the cabin service in case the items might show up on the aircraft. She gave me a form and called the gate. I returned to flight attendant #4 and the police officer was talking to the family. The honolulu police officer came over to us with a backpack and said he knew where flight attendant #4's items were and asked him what he would like to do about pressing charges. Flight attendant #4 said that if everything was there that he wouldn't press charges. The officer returned to the family. I went back to the baggage claim agent and told them the items were found and we wanted denied boarding on the return flight. The agent connected me with the company. He told me to have the purser call him from the hotel with the rest of the information. The FAA was on board and he documented the incident.
