Narrative:

An unsafe gear (nose) occurred on approach to ewr. Communication (checklists) procedures were followed, an emergency declared and an uneventful landing occurred. The status of the nose gear could not be visually verified from inside the cockpit since the viewer was dirty. The problem was a broken switch giving a false indication. I don't have anything more to contribute and am submitting this form as a general precaution on the advice of my company. This emergency was quite normal. If I can contribute further please ask.
