Narrative:
Contacted new york approach approximately 25 mi southwest of ewr at 3500 ft requesting clearance through class B airspace to proceed to hartford. Was assigned a discrete transponder code and told to identify. As I approached class B I had not heard back from the controller. Contacted approach again requesting confirmation that I was cleared into class B space. Was told to remain clear of class B squawk VFR (1200) and contact approach on a different frequency. I immediately descended to 2800 ft which is below the floor of the class B. Contacted approach on the new frequency and controller indicated I was already in class B and was interfering with a heavy on final to ewr. After switching to next controller, I asked verification of mode C and discovered that mode C readout was reading a couple of hundred ft high.

Title: PLT OF LIGHT TWIN INADVERTENTLY ENTERED CLASS B AIRSPACE WHILE AWAITING CLRNC FROM TRACON.
Narrative: CONTACTED NEW YORK APCH APPROX 25 MI SW OF EWR AT 3500 FT REQUESTING CLRNC THROUGH CLASS B AIRSPACE TO PROCEED TO HARTFORD. WAS ASSIGNED A DISCRETE XPONDER CODE AND TOLD TO IDENT. AS I APCHED CLASS B I HAD NOT HEARD BACK FROM THE CTLR. CONTACTED APCH AGAIN REQUESTING CONFIRMATION THAT I WAS CLRED INTO CLASS B SPACE. WAS TOLD TO REMAIN CLR OF CLASS B SQUAWK VFR (1200) AND CONTACT APCH ON A DIFFERENT FREQ. I IMMEDIATELY DSNDED TO 2800 FT WHICH IS BELOW THE FLOOR OF THE CLASS B. CONTACTED APCH ON THE NEW FREQ AND CTLR INDICATED I WAS ALREADY IN CLASS B AND WAS INTERFERING WITH A HVY ON FINAL TO EWR. AFTER SWITCHING TO NEXT CTLR, I ASKED VERIFICATION OF MODE C AND DISCOVERED THAT MODE C READOUT WAS READING A COUPLE OF HUNDRED FT HIGH.
