Narrative:

B737 departed immediately behind a challenger at same runway and same routing for first 15 mi, presumably on visual separation. Departure controller immediately issued slowest possible assignable speed (230 KTS) to the B737 due to arrs inbound at 9000 ft. Both aircraft leveled at 8000 ft. The B737 continued to overtake the challenger too close -- less than 1 mi. I had to vector both aircraft off side to prevent further deterioration. Tower controllers need to take aircraft performance into account, and not worry so much about reporting delays.

Title: TWR CTLR RELEASED A B737 CLOSELY BEHIND A COMMUTER CL60 ACFT RESULTING IN THE B737 OVERTAKING THE FIRST ACFT. THE DEP CTLR ISSUED A RADAR VECTOR TO THE B737.

Narrative: B737 DEPARTED IMMEDIATELY BEHIND A CHALLENGER AT SAME RWY AND SAME ROUTING FOR FIRST 15 MI, PRESUMABLY ON VISUAL SEPARATION. DEP CTLR IMMEDIATELY ISSUED SLOWEST POSSIBLE ASSIGNABLE SPD (230 KTS) TO THE B737 DUE TO ARRS INBOUND AT 9000 FT. BOTH ACFT LEVELED AT 8000 FT. THE B737 CONTINUED TO OVERTAKE THE CHALLENGER TOO CLOSE -- LESS THAN 1 MI. I HAD TO VECTOR BOTH ACFT OFF SIDE TO PREVENT FURTHER DETERIORATION. TWR CTLRS NEED TO TAKE ACFT PERFORMANCE INTO ACCOUNT, AND NOT WORRY SO MUCH ABOUT RPTING DELAYS.
