Narrative:

I was the captain of a flight from sea-anc. We had a very full airplane (overbooked, in fact), an unresolved maintenance issue, and some passenger seating problems occurring when a csa came into the cockpit with 2 jump seat forms. I asked her if the idents had been checked and she said 'yes.' the jump seaters took their position and we departed. After arriving at cruise and engaging the jump seaters in conversation, we (the first officer and I) found that one of our jump seaters was not a part 135 or part 121 pilot, but was employed as a baggage handler for a part 135 operator. He defended himself by saying that he had a pilot's license and thought that this qualified him to ride the jump seat. The agent had apparently checked his company identify but had not realized that his pilot's license was only a private. In the future, I will endeavor to look at the credentials of my jump seaters more closely.

Title: AN ACR PIC DISCOVERS AT CRUISE ALT THAT ONE OF HIS JUMP SEAT RIDERS IS A PART 135 BAGGAGE HANDLER WITH A PVT PLT'S LICENSE. ON BOARDING, THE FLT ATTENDANT CHKED THEIR IDENTS, NOT THE CAPT.

Narrative: I WAS THE CAPT OF A FLT FROM SEA-ANC. I ASKED HER IF THE IDENTS HAD BEEN CHKED AND SHE SAID 'YES.' THE JUMP SEATERS TOOK THEIR POS AND WE DEPARTED. AFTER ARRIVING AT CRUISE AND ENGAGING THE JUMP SEATERS IN CONVERSATION, WE (THE FO AND I) FOUND THAT ONE OF OUR JUMP SEATERS WAS NOT A PART 135 OR PART 121 PLT, BUT WAS EMPLOYED AS A BAGGAGE HANDLER FOR A PART 135 OPERATOR. HE DEFENDED HIMSELF BY SAYING THAT HE HAD A PLT'S LICENSE AND THOUGHT THAT THIS QUALIFIED HIM TO RIDE THE JUMP SEAT. THE AGENT HAD APPARENTLY CHKED HIS COMPANY IDENT BUT HAD NOT REALIZED THAT HIS PLT'S LICENSE WAS ONLY A PVT. IN THE FUTURE, I WILL ENDEAVOR TO LOOK AT THE CREDENTIALS OF MY JUMP SEATERS MORE CLOSELY.
