Narrative:

We were taxiing from gate on taxiway south to hold short of taxiway C with midfield ramp. Short of taxiway C we contacted ground. Ground instructed us to taxi to runway 1R via taxiway J to K5, taxiway K to runway 1R. I was taxiing the aircraft. We misread the taxi chart and entered taxiway K at K1 instead of K5. After realizing we entered taxiway K at K1, we stopped. Before we could get a word in to ground to tell them we entered at K1 instead of K5 (we knew we were on taxiway K and were in no danger of entering the active runway), ground instructed us to continue taxiing on taxiway K to runway 1R. New taxiway lighting system with stop bars, etc, could have prevented our problem. We could have studied the chart closer so we would not have made this mistake.

Title: BE02 CREW TAXIED ONTO WRONG TXWY.

Narrative: WE WERE TAXIING FROM GATE ON TXWY S TO HOLD SHORT OF TXWY C WITH MIDFIELD RAMP. SHORT OF TXWY C WE CONTACTED GND. GND INSTRUCTED US TO TAXI TO RWY 1R VIA TXWY J TO K5, TXWY K TO RWY 1R. I WAS TAXIING THE ACFT. WE MISREAD THE TAXI CHART AND ENTERED TXWY K AT K1 INSTEAD OF K5. AFTER REALIZING WE ENTERED TXWY K AT K1, WE STOPPED. BEFORE WE COULD GET A WORD IN TO GND TO TELL THEM WE ENTERED AT K1 INSTEAD OF K5 (WE KNEW WE WERE ON TXWY K AND WERE IN NO DANGER OF ENTERING THE ACTIVE RWY), GND INSTRUCTED US TO CONTINUE TAXIING ON TXWY K TO RWY 1R. NEW TXWY LIGHTING SYS WITH STOP BARS, ETC, COULD HAVE PREVENTED OUR PROB. WE COULD HAVE STUDIED THE CHART CLOSER SO WE WOULD NOT HAVE MADE THIS MISTAKE.
