Narrative:

Departing ord runway 32L from intersection T10 we received a red windshear light and an audible windshear warning passing through approximately 1000 ft AGL. The captain disconnected the autothrottles and advanced the throttles to maximum power. I noted egt on both engines was above 650 degrees and EPR at 2.24 and 2.26. He pulled the nose up to about 15 degrees pitch up. Within a few hundred ft and 10-15 seconds, the warning ended. The captain then reduced pitch and power to normal levels. I told the captain we had overboosted the engines. We agreed that an air abort back to ord was in order. We continued the climb to 5000 ft MSL while cleaning up the flaps and slats. I notified ord tower of the windshear and our intention to return to ord. Tower sent us to departure control where we declared an emergency for the engine condition and the impending overweight landing 136000 pounds. I passed emergency data and a request for vectors runway 9R ILS. On vectors with the aircraft stable we turned to the flight manual to review engine overspd/overtemp and overweight landing procedures. The captain made an uneventful overweight landing. Total flight time 14 mins. Predep ATIS indicated moderate precipitation, nnw, 8 NM. WX radar showed a few areas of red returns but not along our immediate flight path. The windshear warning was not accompanied by any immediate changes in airspeed or vertical velocity. The windshear light and audible warning while still in takeoff confign and at only 1000 ft AGL were sufficient conditions to warrant a red box escape maneuver. Aircraft system reacted in accordance with the flight manual. Supplemental information from acn 401841: WX at ord was approximately 600 ft, 2 DME with slight tailwind for runway 32L T10 intersection. Areas of moderate showers were reported within 10 mi of the airport to the west and northwest. Captain was PF. Notified the flight attendants first then passenger of our need to return. Landing was uneventful. First officer did an excellent job.

THE CAPT MADE AN UNEVENTFUL OVERWT LNDG. TOTAL FLT TIME 14 MINS. PREDEP ATIS INDICATED MODERATE PRECIP, NNW, 8 NM. WX RADAR SHOWED A FEW AREAS OF RED RETURNS BUT NOT ALONG OUR IMMEDIATE FLT PATH. THE WINDSHEAR WARNING WAS NOT ACCOMPANIED BY ANY IMMEDIATE CHANGES IN AIRSPD OR VERT VELOCITY. THE WINDSHEAR LIGHT AND AUDIBLE WARNING WHILE STILL IN TKOF CONFIGN AND AT ONLY 1000 FT AGL WERE SUFFICIENT CONDITIONS TO WARRANT A RED BOX ESCAPE MANEUVER. ACFT SYS REACTED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FLT MANUAL. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 401841: WX AT ORD WAS APPROX 600 FT, 2 DME WITH SLIGHT TAILWIND FOR RWY 32L T10 INTXN. AREAS OF MODERATE SHOWERS WERE RPTED WITHIN 10 MI OF THE ARPT TO THE W AND NW. CAPT WAS PF. NOTIFIED THE FLT ATTENDANTS FIRST THEN PAX OF OUR NEED TO RETURN. LNDG WAS UNEVENTFUL.
