Northbound BE35 overflt 30 mi south of okc at 8000 ft. IFR departure 30 mi north of okc climbing to 10000 ft. Aircraft merged 7 mi north of fix opposite direction. Contributing factors: inattention to crossing flight paths. Situation realized with 2 mi head on. Attempted to turn aircraft wrong way to alleviate, however pilots saw for visual. Human factor cause -- heightened awareness needed. Contributing factor equipment: overlapping data blocks.
