Narrative:

23 mi southeast of knox VOR, ZAU cleared us down to 9000 ft. Captain (PF) commenced the descent by retarding the power levers. Both levers moved, however, the left engine power remained at the cruise power rating -- unaffected by movement of the power lever. The descent was uneventful. We called our dispatch and maintenance. We were able to switch control for that power lever to the standby controls and fly the aircraft using that method. We notified ATC of our problem and continued into ord, shot an approach, and landed without any problems. Flight attendants were notified in-flight of our problem. Also, CRM worked well and we encountered no difficulty. Emergency checklist was viewed in-flight but there really wasn't a checklist that matched the scenario. We were able to work with approach to get airspds that would remain constant through the approach.

WE WERE ABLE TO WORK WITH APCH TO GET AIRSPDS THAT WOULD REMAIN CONSTANT THROUGH THE APCH.
