Narrative:

The apache was in the pattern when I was on the ground getting fuel. I heard him ask unicom for WX conditions, which probably means he was unfamiliar with the field, which has AWOS. I picked up the unicom microphone and answered because the line man was fueling my plane. I then walked over to the FSS and returned to pay for fuel. When I got into the plane, I got on CTAF and asked the apache to identify his position. No response. I announced my intent to take off on runway 24. No response. As I retracted my gear on climb out, I saw the apache land beneath me on runway 16. No evasive action required, but if he had done a go around, or if I had aborted the takeoff, we would have had a problem. Contributing factors: lack of vigilance and over reliance by me on CTAF.

Narrative: THE APACHE WAS IN THE PATTERN WHEN I WAS ON THE GND GETTING FUEL. I HEARD HIM ASK UNICOM FOR WX CONDITIONS, WHICH PROBABLY MEANS HE WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH THE FIELD, WHICH HAS AWOS. I PICKED UP THE UNICOM MIKE AND ANSWERED BECAUSE THE LINE MAN WAS FUELING MY PLANE. I THEN WALKED OVER TO THE FSS AND RETURNED TO PAY FOR FUEL. WHEN I GOT INTO THE PLANE, I GOT ON CTAF AND ASKED THE APACHE TO IDENT HIS POS. NO RESPONSE. I ANNOUNCED MY INTENT TO TAKE OFF ON RWY 24. NO RESPONSE. AS I RETRACTED MY GEAR ON CLBOUT, I SAW THE APACHE LAND BENEATH ME ON RWY 16. NO EVASIVE ACTION REQUIRED, BUT IF HE HAD DONE A GAR, OR IF I HAD ABORTED THE TKOF, WE WOULD HAVE HAD A PROB. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: LACK OF VIGILANCE AND OVER RELIANCE BY ME ON CTAF.
