Narrative:

Descending into swf. Ny approach issued traffic alert, and we picked up a red pitts flying an aerobatic maneuver. PF made a climbing left turn to evade the pitts. The maneuver was successful and we proceeded to swf. Ny approach noted that the pitts had no transponder and did not see it until just before we did. Since pitts did not have a transponder, no TCASII alert was given.

Title: CAPT OF AN MLG MADE A CLBING TURN TO AVOID A SIGHTED PITTS ACFT DOING AN AEROBATICS MANEUVER DURING DSCNT FOR LNDG AT 15 MI OUT AT 3500 FT. SINCE THE PITTS WAS NOT SHOWING A XPONDER RETURN, ATC DID NOT OBSERVE THE PITTS BEFORE THE RPTR WHICH ALSO CAUSED RPTR TO NOT HAVE A TCASII WARNING.

THE MANEUVER WAS SUCCESSFUL AND WE PROCEEDED TO SWF. NY APCH NOTED THAT THE PITTS HAD NO XPONDER AND DID NOT SEE IT UNTIL JUST BEFORE WE DID. SINCE PITTS DID NOT HAVE A XPONDER, NO TCASII ALERT WAS GIVEN.
