Narrative:

On return from chino, ca, airport and on top of a broken layer (broken layer at 1800 ft AGL, aircraft at 2800 ft MSL), I descended through a hole in the broken area thinking I was 5 SM from lgb, based on my GPS and DME. On ascertaining my exact location, it appears that I might have been just inside the long beach air traffic area. Trying to familiarize oneself with a new hand-held moving map GPS, while flying in a broken cloud layer environment and xchking with vors and GPS was not a bright thing to do. Next time it will be in severe clear and with a second pilot onboard.
