When I asked him if he had smoked a cigarette in lavatory (twice -- he evaded first question) he answered affirmatively. He stated he disposed of cigarette in toilet. Other flight attendant checked lavatory, found ashes in sink, no indications in trash bins/storage bins of any residue. Purser talked to passenger citing captain's part 1 of manual.
