Flight deviation due to severe WX over central florida. Flight from dtw to mia on airways. ATC deviation to east due WX. Class 6 thunderstorm caused flight to deviate further over water than the required 50 KM. No other route seemed possible at that time. Winds at FL220 were 270 degrees at 95 KTS. Returned toward shore after clear of WX.
