Narrative:

Approximately 1 hour into flight the ECAM displayed #1 engine fuel filter clog. After conferring with dispatch and maintenance control the decision was jointly made to divert to mem. We descended to 10000 ft and entered holding at beert intersection to burn fuel down to maximum landing weight. At XX35Z on the first outbound leg of holding and just starting the turn inbound, the #1 engine decreased to below idle RPM and continued to decrease. ECAM procedure for engine restart was initiated and not successful. We declared an emergency upon engine failure and proceeded to ILS runway 18R at mem. An overweight landing by 500 pounds was made without event and taxied to the gate without further incident.
