Narrative:

Holding short for takeoff runway 17R dfw. Just prior to being given clearance for position and hold runway 17R, a commuter was given the same clearance for the same runway 17R. We are now both on runway 17R with the commuter in front of us. The commuter is difficult to see because it is at night and he is aligned with the runway centerline lights. Other aircraft are being cleared from numerous locations to cross from runway 17L across runway 17R. We are inviting a mishap with this degree of activity. What little there is to be gained from all of this is not worth the risk.
