Flight crew of an light transport turboprop heard buzzing noise during approach and shut off recirculation fans which eliminated the noise. However, postflt inspection of the aircraft disclosed that one half of the APU access door was missing.

Narrative:
Flight departed mke to cvg. No problems noted en route. While being vectored for approach crew noticed buzzing sound and suspected recirculation fan impending failure. Shut off all fans and sound went away. On postflt gpu door was found to be missing 1/2 of door. No other damage noted.
