Narrative:

Descending into phx, ATC instructed us to cross tonto intersection at 12000 ft, 250 KTS. Descending about 2500 FPM, we received TA then RA at about 13000 ft for traffic at 11000 ft. During this RA, and ATC telling us about the traffic, we descended to about 11900 ft. ATC asked what our altitude was, and we then climbed back to 12000 ft. From a pilot's point of view, descending to make a crossing restr on top of slow moving aircraft, and to have only 1000 ft separation, can cause some discomfort in the cockpit -- especially with TCASII warnings.

Title: MD88 ACFT IN DSCNT TO MAKE XING RESTR RECEIVED TCASII TA AND THEN RA ON TFC 1000 FT BELOW. RPTR FO OVERSHOT ASSIGNED ALT BY 100 FT DUE TO DISTRS OF TCASII AND ATC COM.

Narrative: DSNDING INTO PHX, ATC INSTRUCTED US TO CROSS TONTO INTXN AT 12000 FT, 250 KTS. DSNDING ABOUT 2500 FPM, WE RECEIVED TA THEN RA AT ABOUT 13000 FT FOR TFC AT 11000 FT. DURING THIS RA, AND ATC TELLING US ABOUT THE TFC, WE DSNDED TO ABOUT 11900 FT. ATC ASKED WHAT OUR ALT WAS, AND WE THEN CLBED BACK TO 12000 FT. FROM A PLT'S POINT OF VIEW, DSNDING TO MAKE A XING RESTR ON TOP OF SLOW MOVING ACFT, AND TO HAVE ONLY 1000 FT SEPARATION, CAN CAUSE SOME DISCOMFORT IN THE COCKPIT -- ESPECIALLY WITH TCASII WARNINGS.
