Narrative:

While en route from gsp to cvg, ZID asked us why we were going to a particular fix. The first officer was working the radio while I was on the other speaking with the company. Further investigation showed we were not on the published STAR transition. The first officer had programmed the FMS, but had not confirmed the routing. Normally the capts program the FMS and verify the routing. I however, failed to verify the first officer's work and this caused an incorrect route to be flown. No conflict occurred but it was embarrassing. In the future I will stick to my routine and not be as trusting with the first officer's. Supplemental information from acn 391874: while at FL270 the FMS turned the aircraft towards arthur intersection. We thought that this was on our flight plan, however, creda was our next fix. ATC asked which fix we were heading for and corrected us to fly direct to creda intersection. This was the last leg of a 3 day trip after flying 6 hours on this day. The problem was that we both missed the fact that the FMS was programmed with the wrong transition on the sweed arrival. Closer attention to the FMS stored flight plan would have corrected this situation.

Title: AN ACR FLC ALLOWS AN ERRONEOUSLY PROGRAMMED FMS DATABASE TO FLY THE ACFT TOWARDS THE WRONG FIX ON AN ARR PROC. THE DATABASE HAD THE WRONG TRANSITION PROGRAMMED INTO IT.

Narrative: WHILE ENRTE FROM GSP TO CVG, ZID ASKED US WHY WE WERE GOING TO A PARTICULAR FIX. THE FO WAS WORKING THE RADIO WHILE I WAS ON THE OTHER SPEAKING WITH THE COMPANY. FURTHER INVESTIGATION SHOWED WE WERE NOT ON THE PUBLISHED STAR TRANSITION. THE FO HAD PROGRAMMED THE FMS, BUT HAD NOT CONFIRMED THE ROUTING. NORMALLY THE CAPTS PROGRAM THE FMS AND VERIFY THE ROUTING. I HOWEVER, FAILED TO VERIFY THE FO'S WORK AND THIS CAUSED AN INCORRECT RTE TO BE FLOWN. NO CONFLICT OCCURRED BUT IT WAS EMBARRASSING. IN THE FUTURE I WILL STICK TO MY ROUTINE AND NOT BE AS TRUSTING WITH THE FO'S. SUPPLEMENTAL INFO FROM ACN 391874: WHILE AT FL270 THE FMS TURNED THE ACFT TOWARDS ARTHUR INTXN. WE THOUGHT THAT THIS WAS ON OUR FLT PLAN, HOWEVER, CREDA WAS OUR NEXT FIX. ATC ASKED WHICH FIX WE WERE HEADING FOR AND CORRECTED US TO FLY DIRECT TO CREDA INTXN. THIS WAS THE LAST LEG OF A 3 DAY TRIP AFTER FLYING 6 HRS ON THIS DAY. THE PROB WAS THAT WE BOTH MISSED THE FACT THAT THE FMS WAS PROGRAMMED WITH THE WRONG TRANSITION ON THE SWEED ARR. CLOSER ATTN TO THE FMS STORED FLT PLAN WOULD HAVE CORRECTED THIS SIT.
