Cleared by ZOB to cross 70 mi east of pmm VOR at FL240. Passing FL265 controller said assigned altitude was FL280, climb and maintain FL280. First officer and I both heard clearance to FL240 and did the standard first officer set altitude and I confirmed it before we started descent. Nothing was mentioned about any conflict with other traffic.

Title: FLC OF A FK10 WERE DSNDING TO THEIR NEWLY ASSIGNED ALT WHEN ATC INTERVENED TO ADVISE THAT THEY HAD GONE PAST THEIR ASSIGNED ALT. BOTH CREW MEMBERS BELIEVED THAT THEY HAD BOTH HEARD AND RECORDED THE NEWLY ASSIGNED ALT CORRECTLY.
