Narrative:

On dec/xx/97, at approximately XX00 hours, I departed arlington airport (F54) VFR en route to ads in dallas, tx. After departing F54, I contacted departure control on 124.5, asking for VFR flight following over to ads at or below 2000 ft MSL. At that time departure advised me to remain clear of class B airspace. I advised that I would comply. I stayed at 1900 ft MSL. Departure was busy and after a short delay, contact was again made. They gave me a squawk and ATC advised me to cross navy dallas field at mid-field and then direct to dallas/love field, again, crossing at mid-field, direct ads. This I did. No contact was made with navy dallas or dallas/love tower because I was in contact with departure. After crossing dallas/love, I turned direct ads and advised departure I had ads in sight. They then advised me to contact ads tower which I did, entering a right downwind as instructed and landed as instructed by ads tower. After a short time on the ground, the FBO said I was supposed to call dallas/love tower. I did, asking if there was a problem? The person responded yes, as I had passed through their airspace. There was confusion on his part because he kept asking me if I was off ftw. I advised no, I was off F54. I felt like they had me mixed up with another aircraft. I asked him if I should file a NASA report. He indicated no, but in the future, to be sure and inquire, especially, if passing through class B airspace. I indicated, I would. In all honesty, I thought I had a clearance to enter class B airspace since I had contact with departure, who also gave me a squawk and route of flight to fly at or below 2000 ft MSL. At no time was I handed off to tower or asked to contact any tower, except when I advised departure/approach that ads was in sight and told by departure/approach to contact ads tower. The person I was talking with, indicated to me that he had been advised by departure that they never talked with me. This was another indication to me that they had me mixed up with someone else. This really concerned me since I was talking with them. I asked if they could check the tapes for additional information. I know now, even more so, not to take anything for granted. When in doubt inquire and always clarify especially in unfamiliar territory. More care will be exercised in the future, to ensure no reoccurrence will happen.

Title: SMT PLT, RECEIVING TRACON TA'S, CROSSES OVER TWO OTHER ARPTS ENRTE TO DEST. AFTER LNDG, PLT IS ASKED TO CALL TRACON SUPVR TO DISCUSS NON CLRNC THROUGH TWO ATA'S. PLT STATES THE SUPVR DISCUSSES NON SPECIFIC INFO ABOUT ACFT ROUTING AND PROPER CLRNCS. PLT BELIEVES, THAT SINCE HE WAS ON DEP CTLR FREQ, IT WAS NOT HIS RESPONSIBILITY TO CONTACT TWRS WHILE ENRTE TO DEST, UNLESS ADVISED BY ATC.

Narrative: ON DEC/XX/97, AT APPROX XX00 HRS, I DEPARTED ARLINGTON ARPT (F54) VFR ENRTE TO ADS IN DALLAS, TX. AFTER DEPARTING F54, I CONTACTED DEP CTL ON 124.5, ASKING FOR VFR FLT FOLLOWING OVER TO ADS AT OR BELOW 2000 FT MSL. AT THAT TIME DEP ADVISED ME TO REMAIN CLR OF CLASS B AIRSPACE. I ADVISED THAT I WOULD COMPLY. I STAYED AT 1900 FT MSL. DEP WAS BUSY AND AFTER A SHORT DELAY, CONTACT WAS AGAIN MADE. THEY GAVE ME A SQUAWK AND ATC ADVISED ME TO CROSS NAVY DALLAS FIELD AT MID-FIELD AND THEN DIRECT TO DALLAS/LOVE FIELD, AGAIN, XING AT MID-FIELD, DIRECT ADS. THIS I DID. NO CONTACT WAS MADE WITH NAVY DALLAS OR DALLAS/LOVE TWR BECAUSE I WAS IN CONTACT WITH DEP. AFTER XING DALLAS/LOVE, I TURNED DIRECT ADS AND ADVISED DEP I HAD ADS IN SIGHT. THEY THEN ADVISED ME TO CONTACT ADS TWR WHICH I DID, ENTERING A R DOWNWIND AS INSTRUCTED AND LANDED AS INSTRUCTED BY ADS TWR. AFTER A SHORT TIME ON THE GND, THE FBO SAID I WAS SUPPOSED TO CALL DALLAS/LOVE TWR. I DID, ASKING IF THERE WAS A PROB? THE PERSON RESPONDED YES, AS I HAD PASSED THROUGH THEIR AIRSPACE. THERE WAS CONFUSION ON HIS PART BECAUSE HE KEPT ASKING ME IF I WAS OFF FTW. I ADVISED NO, I WAS OFF F54. I FELT LIKE THEY HAD ME MIXED UP WITH ANOTHER ACFT. I ASKED HIM IF I SHOULD FILE A NASA RPT. HE INDICATED NO, BUT IN THE FUTURE, TO BE SURE AND INQUIRE, ESPECIALLY, IF PASSING THROUGH CLASS B AIRSPACE. I INDICATED, I WOULD. IN ALL HONESTY, I THOUGHT I HAD A CLRNC TO ENTER CLASS B AIRSPACE SINCE I HAD CONTACT WITH DEP, WHO ALSO GAVE ME A SQUAWK AND RTE OF FLT TO FLY AT OR BELOW 2000 FT MSL. AT NO TIME WAS I HANDED OFF TO TWR OR ASKED TO CONTACT ANY TWR, EXCEPT WHEN I ADVISED DEP/APCH THAT ADS WAS IN SIGHT AND TOLD BY DEP/APCH TO CONTACT ADS TWR. THE PERSON I WAS TALKING WITH, INDICATED TO ME THAT HE HAD BEEN ADVISED BY DEP THAT THEY NEVER TALKED WITH ME. THIS WAS ANOTHER INDICATION TO ME THAT THEY HAD ME MIXED UP WITH SOMEONE ELSE. THIS REALLY CONCERNED ME SINCE I WAS TALKING WITH THEM. I ASKED IF THEY COULD CHK THE TAPES FOR ADDITIONAL INFO.
