Narrative:

The problem arose when visiting family and to go target shooting with relatives. As we were unpacking the car and having children in the same area, I thought it would be safe to put the target pistol into my flight suitcase and out of sight so no child would accidentally pick up the pistol. As we rushed home in order to prepare for an early morning departure out of oakland the pistol was accidentally left in my suitcase. The pistol was discovered in slc. (Somehow by-passed oakland security.) I believe corrective action would be for any crew member who uses their flight crew bags on a personal trip completely unpack and repack their bags.
