Lost 'a' system hydraulic quantity at cruise flight. Isolating various system, unable to regain system operation. Emergency declared with ZOB. Emergency checklists accomplished as per fom. Approach and landing uneventful. Note: flight originated from ewr to tol. Flight experienced moderate turbulence prior to loss of hydraulic (may have been a factor). Maintenance discovered leaking spoiler return line.
