Narrative:

Stvs (radio/communications equipment) 'faults' due to static electricity. One of these faults occurred while I was working local control position. An aircraft was rolling out on the runway, I had just instructed another air carrier aircraft to 'taxi into position and hold' with another aircraft on 3 mi final when the communication outage occurred. This is extremely unsafe -- it is happening often in all the position in the cabin attendant. In addition, the process to reset the frequency is distracting and cumbersome -- something the manufacturer did not plan on.

Title: ATCT LCL CTLR COMPLAINT ABOUT THE RADIO COMS EQUIP FAULTING FROM STATIC ELECTRICITY.

Narrative: STVS (RADIO/COMS EQUIP) 'FAULTS' DUE TO STATIC ELECTRICITY. ONE OF THESE FAULTS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS WORKING LCL CTL POS. AN ACFT WAS ROLLING OUT ON THE RWY, I HAD JUST INSTRUCTED ANOTHER ACR ACFT TO 'TAXI INTO POS AND HOLD' WITH ANOTHER ACFT ON 3 MI FINAL WHEN THE COM OUTAGE OCCURRED. THIS IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE -- IT IS HAPPENING OFTEN IN ALL THE POS IN THE CAB. IN ADDITION, THE PROCESS TO RESET THE FREQ IS DISTRACTING AND CUMBERSOME -- SOMETHING THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PLAN ON.
