Narrative:

San diego was landing runway 9 and at 21 DME on the pgy 270 degree radial I made the turn to intercept the ocn 162 degree radial as published. I was reminded by approach control that I was not to make any turns without his authority/authorized. Previously I had been cleared to fly the baret 4 arrival, then later given direct to pgy and fly the 270 degree radial pgy outbound, which is on the arrival. I simply had forgotten that I was no longer on the baret 4 arrival when I made the turn to intercept the ocn 162 degree radial.
