Narrative:

Cleared to taxi to runway 25R after crossing runway 25R at taxiway A5. I taxied off the taxiway and onto an unlit dirt area that I couldn't see until the last moment. I was able to turn to the left and re-enter the taxiway. There was no damage to the aircraft. Because I was looking briefly for where to turn to join taxiway A5 and the fact that it was dark and the hazardous area was unlit caused me to enter it. This area needs to be lit with blue taxi lights or barricades for nighttime operations. We continued our taxi and takeoff.
