An air carrier ATR72 descending on a visual approach to ags had an near midair collision with a DA10 VFR climbing out of dnl and requesting an IFR clearance. TRACON controller gave TA's to the ATR72 several times and gave him a traffic alert when the aircraft got extremely close.

Narrative:

Air carrier X flight descending into ags on a visual approach. Air carrier X was 4 mi northwest of dnl when a DA01 departed dnl VFR to the northwest requesting his IFR clearance. After numerous traffic calls prior to the DA01 contacting ags approach, the air carrier X flight was issued a TA. Targets merged with 300 ft lateral separation.
