Narrative:

Was cleared for visual approach at msy, landing to the east. First officer accepted visual after asking if I had the field. I set myself up for a classic loss of contact with the field. Descended into haze directly into the sun which resulted in an overshoot and non stabilized approach. Picked up the final approach course using instruments. Next time I will think twice. (I have to make this mistake about once every 5-6 yrs to remind myself!) a good example as always for learning.
