Narrative:

We were well into our flight into bos when the captain announced a 1/2 hour delay into the airport. When our 1/2 hour ended, he informed the passenger of a hydraulic problem and that our landing gear did not want to go down. He indicated that an ambulance and fire trucks would be meeting our flight. The passenger panicked at the thought of an emergency landing. The crew prepared the cabin as soon as possible and answered as many questions as we could. Gratefully, we landed with no other incidents. The major problem was the lack of communication by the cockpit to the cabin. We should have been informed. Every yr at emergency procedures training, we discuss the importance of communication, but we obviously have a long way to go before everyone understands and does it. The crew was not aware of any problem until the captain made the PA to the passenger. I believe had we not have been so lucky, and landed without our wheels down, the amount of catastrophe would've been great in numbers due to our lack of information and time to prepare.

Title: AN ACR A300 CABIN ATTENDANT RPTS THAT A HYD SYS FAILURE CAUSED LNDG GEAR EXTENSION PROBS. THIS WAS ANNOUNCED TO THE PAX, BUT THERE WAS NO ADDITIONAL COM WITH THE FLC EITHER TO THE CABIN ATTENDANTS OR DIRECTLY TO THE PAX. THE ACFT LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER DIFFICULTIES WITH THE GEAR EXTENDED.

Narrative: WE WERE WELL INTO OUR FLT INTO BOS WHEN THE CAPT ANNOUNCED A 1/2 HR DELAY INTO THE ARPT. WHEN OUR 1/2 HR ENDED, HE INFORMED THE PAX OF A HYD PROB AND THAT OUR LNDG GEAR DID NOT WANT TO GO DOWN. HE INDICATED THAT AN AMBULANCE AND FIRE TRUCKS WOULD BE MEETING OUR FLT. THE PAX PANICKED AT THE THOUGHT OF AN EMER LNDG. THE CREW PREPARED THE CABIN ASAP AND ANSWERED AS MANY QUESTIONS AS WE COULD. GRATEFULLY, WE LANDED WITH NO OTHER INCIDENTS. THE MAJOR PROB WAS THE LACK OF COM BY THE COCKPIT TO THE CABIN. WE SHOULD HAVE BEEN INFORMED. EVERY YR AT EMER PROCS TRAINING, WE DISCUSS THE IMPORTANCE OF COM, BUT WE OBVIOUSLY HAVE A LONG WAY TO GO BEFORE EVERYONE UNDERSTANDS AND DOES IT. THE CREW WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY PROB UNTIL THE CAPT MADE THE PA TO THE PAX. I BELIEVE HAD WE NOT HAVE BEEN SO LUCKY, AND LANDED WITHOUT OUR WHEELS DOWN, THE AMOUNT OF CATASTROPHE WOULD'VE BEEN GREAT IN NUMBERS DUE TO OUR LACK OF INFO AND TIME TO PREPARE.
