Narrative:

Flight to L75 from the east. Background: the PF was first officer. PNF was captain. The first officer worked for company approximately a month. The captain was contract pilot, never flown for company before. The 2 pilots are friends that haven't seen each other in awhile. Approaching L75 from east, cleared 2000 ft, level at 2000 ft. Controller advises 'airport 12 O'clock position, 13 mi' approximately. PF looks up and sees runway. PNF advises ATC. ATC advises 'clear visual approach runway 33.' PF descends to 1500 ft. Enters approach 2 mi final. After landing, PF sees taxiway and realizes that the airport is not sulphur but lake charles. Sees light gun signal from tower. PNF calls tower and requests taxi back to runway 33. Factors affecting error: crew that had not flown together as a flight crew before and had no common training. Relaxed atmosphere. Failure of PF to verify DME. Failure of PNF to check position. 2 friends relaxed with each other and not xchking each other.
