Narrative:

While on vector to hnn VOR for approach to gas, was given approach clearance 10 mi from VOR. Instead of doing procedure turn to the east, strictly turned to intercept inbound course. Proper procedure would have been to do full procedure turn then proceed inbound. No conflict with traffic, or discussion with ATC. Causes to incident/occurrence -- very new to part 135. Should not have accepted approach clearance due to no WX reporting at gas airport. We were able to cancel IFR 2 mi into approach. Proceeded successfully VFR.
