Narrative:

We had briefed the loupe nine departure from runway 30L which calls for a noise abatement climb and right turn at 1.8 DME to a heading of 120 degrees. Captain misread DME readout and directed first officer to hit 'heading select' at about .5 DME. We turned too early and may have overflown a noise sensitive area. NAVAID at far end of runway may have contributed to the confusion. ATC made no comment. Flight continued uneventfully.
