Pilot of a rockwell turboprop aeronautical commander lost communication after entering class C airspace and inadvertently squawked the emergency code and not the appropriate code for lost communications. As a result, the emergency fire rescue vehicles met reporter upon landing.

Narrative:
Lost communication flying from oly to cmi. I squawked 7700 to notify ATC that I had a problem, but in the hurry of getting the problem cured I failed to squawk 7600. After landing at cmi, the fire department called and said they were put at standby due to my failure to squawk 7600.

Narrative: LOST COM FLYING FROM OLY TO CMI. I SQUAWKED 7700 TO NOTIFY ATC THAT I HAD A PROB, BUT IN THE HURRY OF GETTING THE PROB CURED I FAILED TO SQUAWK 7600. AFTER LNDG AT CMI, THE FIRE DEPT CALLED AND SAID THEY WERE PUT AT STANDBY DUE TO MY FAILURE TO SQUAWK 7600.
