Narrative:

Flight plan called for 'loop 9' departure. Actually cleared LAXX2. This change presented on 'modified pre departure clearance.' when ATC cleared us direct to sli, I complied, then questioned routing because sli not on 'loop 9.' asked by ATC to confirm LAXX2 clearance. Rechk of pre departure clearance confirmed this. At no time were we not in compliance with LAXX2, as initial part of departure the same. Potentially, we were in violation if we had continued loop 9. Believe human factors problem due to uncommon type ii pre departure clearance with data displayed in different format.

Title: L1011 FLC FAILS TO READ THEIR PDC THOROUGHLY ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THEIR ROUTING OUT OF LAX. THEY WERE USING THE LOOP 9 INSTEAD OF THE LAXX2 DEP PROC. PIC BLAMES THE 'UNCOMMON' FORMAT AS USED BY COMPANY. DEP CTLR HAD GIVEN THEM A DIRECT SLI WHICH WAS NOT ON THEIR EXPECTED RTE.

Narrative: FLT PLAN CALLED FOR 'LOOP 9' DEP. ACTUALLY CLRED LAXX2. THIS CHANGE PRESENTED ON 'MODIFIED PDC.' WHEN ATC CLRED US DIRECT TO SLI, I COMPLIED, THEN QUESTIONED ROUTING BECAUSE SLI NOT ON 'LOOP 9.' ASKED BY ATC TO CONFIRM LAXX2 CLRNC. RECHK OF PDC CONFIRMED THIS. AT NO TIME WERE WE NOT IN COMPLIANCE WITH LAXX2, AS INITIAL PART OF DEP THE SAME. POTENTIALLY, WE WERE IN VIOLATION IF WE HAD CONTINUED LOOP 9. BELIEVE HUMAN FACTORS PROB DUE TO UNCOMMON TYPE II PDC WITH DATA DISPLAYED IN DIFFERENT FORMAT.
