Narrative:

Ground requested that we enter ramp area via taxiway south, after having issued another taxi route. By the time we located the taxiway on the chart and visually, we were crossing it. Ground controllers then issued a further amendment -- no further incident. There has been a recent spate of runway incursions as well as incidents of pilots taxiing onto closed txwys and txwys not intended for use. This increased rate of events seems to be related to airport layout, traffic management, and an increase in the number of pilots who are new to the cle airport or are otherwise unfamiliar.

Title: FLC OF EMB145 TRYING TO LOCATE TXWY TO WHICH THEY ARE CLRED TAXIES ACROSS IT AS THEY SIGHT THE TXWY. GND AMENDS THE CLRNC TO RAMP. RPTR RELATES INCREASED FREQ OF SUCH EVENTS AT CLE.

Narrative: GND REQUESTED THAT WE ENTER RAMP AREA VIA TXWY S, AFTER HAVING ISSUED ANOTHER TAXI RTE. BY THE TIME WE LOCATED THE TXWY ON THE CHART AND VISUALLY, WE WERE XING IT. GND CTLRS THEN ISSUED A FURTHER AMENDMENT -- NO FURTHER INCIDENT. THERE HAS BEEN A RECENT SPATE OF RWY INCURSIONS AS WELL AS INCIDENTS OF PLTS TAXIING ONTO CLOSED TXWYS AND TXWYS NOT INTENDED FOR USE. THIS INCREASED RATE OF EVENTS SEEMS TO BE RELATED TO ARPT LAYOUT, TFC MGMNT, AND AN INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF PLTS WHO ARE NEW TO THE CLE ARPT OR ARE OTHERWISE UNFAMILIAR.
