Narrative:

ATC facility: ord tower. Location: ILS final runway 4R. With winds 050 degrees at steady over 30 KTS and gusting to over 40 KTS, the first officer was briefed on the possibility of windshear and the parameters of recognition were reviewed. A windshear alert was annunciated in the aircraft at about 900 ft and the escape procedure was accomplished. The first officer was flying and accomplished the proper procedures. ATC requested a heading change immediately to 090 degrees and altitude of only 1600 ft. With the escape procedure power at go around and the nose at a high attitude, it was not safe to comply with their instructions. After the emergency was over and the aircraft under control, the ATC instructions were complied with. There were other aircraft that went missed as well. The next approach was completed safely. The first officer did an outstanding job flying the aircraft.
