Narrative:

While flying south of ywl VOR in canada, I had to climb to 15500 ft for WX and terrain. I was not on an airway route, but my VFR flight plan was to take me to this area and into bli. Talked to prince george radio on 126.7 and then contacted vancouver approach. They informed me I was in class B airspace without a clearance. This may have been my mistake since you can go VFR 17999 ft in the united states and canada starts at 12500 ft in controled airspace. I was under the assumption in canada that on a VFR flight plan you can go up to 17999 ft also, but later found not in any controled airspace above 12500 ft. My decision was based on terrain and WX in this area.
