Narrative:

I was instructing the new owner of a lancair 235. We had been doing airwork west of yolo county airport for about 1 hour and then proceeded to yolo county airport for fuel. There were other aircraft landing and taking off during our approach to the pattern for runway 34. After landing we taxied to the fuel pump. After fueling we were taxiing from the north end of the taxiway where the fuel pumps were located to the south end for takeoff on runway 34. Our taxi speed was approximately that of a fast walk. The winds were out of the north, 30-35 mph and gusting. We had taxied about 2/3 of the way to the south end when a gust lifted the left wing and turned the aircraft to the right. When the aircraft contacted the taxiway we were crosswind to the taxiway and the side loads collapsed the landing gear. I believe this was an act of god. Prevention of this kind of incident might be prevented if light planes were equipped with spoilers that could be deployed during gusty sits.

Title: INSTRUCTOR PLT CHKING OUT A NEW OWNER OF LANCAIR 235 IS TAXIING FOR TKOF WHEN A WIND GUST LIFTS THE WING AND TURNS THE ACFT SO IT IS XWIND WHEN IT SETTLES BACK ONTO TXWY. THIS COLLAPSES THE GEAR.

Narrative: I WAS INSTRUCTING THE NEW OWNER OF A LANCAIR 235. WE HAD BEEN DOING AIRWORK W OF YOLO COUNTY ARPT FOR ABOUT 1 HR AND THEN PROCEEDED TO YOLO COUNTY ARPT FOR FUEL. THERE WERE OTHER ACFT LNDG AND TAKING OFF DURING OUR APCH TO THE PATTERN FOR RWY 34. AFTER LNDG WE TAXIED TO THE FUEL PUMP. AFTER FUELING WE WERE TAXIING FROM THE N END OF THE TXWY WHERE THE FUEL PUMPS WERE LOCATED TO THE S END FOR TKOF ON RWY 34. OUR TAXI SPD WAS APPROX THAT OF A FAST WALK. THE WINDS WERE OUT OF THE N, 30-35 MPH AND GUSTING. WE HAD TAXIED ABOUT 2/3 OF THE WAY TO THE S END WHEN A GUST LIFTED THE L WING AND TURNED THE ACFT TO THE R. WHEN THE ACFT CONTACTED THE TXWY WE WERE XWIND TO THE TXWY AND THE SIDE LOADS COLLAPSED THE LNDG GEAR. I BELIEVE THIS WAS AN ACT OF GOD. PREVENTION OF THIS KIND OF INCIDENT MIGHT BE PREVENTED IF LIGHT PLANES WERE EQUIPPED WITH SPOILERS THAT COULD BE DEPLOYED DURING GUSTY SITS.
