Narrative:

I was cleared for the visual approach runway 29R at minneapolis international airport. I used the ILS to fly the approach to the runway just for the practice of it. After landing while still on the main gear the controller asked me to make the next left turn and contact ground. I brought the tail down and made the turn which was more than a 90 degree turn. When I went around the corner I realized I had too much momentum and was not going to be able to stop the turn even with heavy right braking. I went off the edge of the taxiway into the grass where I locked the left brake to spin the tail completely around and came to a stop facing the taxiway. (Ie, 360 degrees from original turn.) ATC asked if I needed assistance and I replied no and taxied back on the taxiway and contacted ground. I informed them that I may have hit a taxi light but did not know and taxied to the ramp. I check aircraft for any damage paying particular attention to propellers and flaps for dings or dents but found none. Of course my pilot ego was pretty sore. I have talked to many BE18 pilots and it's not that unusual to let the airplane spin on you (ground loop) right when you are exiting the runway if you have too much speed or let a high rate of turn develop. My mistake was in thinking I could make that taxiway and not taking the next down the line. At any rate, in the future I only make turns at a slow taxi speed. This was embarrassing but a good lesson for me in the twin beech. I was feeling a little over-confident but now I pay complete attention to the aircraft at all times in flight and on the ground. One more point, I knew there was an aircraft on final behind me so I thought I was helping the controller by making this particular taxiway. Well in the future, I only worry about my aircraft and not what the controller is doing.

Title: PLT OF AN ATX BEECH, BE18, 'TAIL DRAGGER' TWIN, GND LOOPED, AND RAN OFF THE TXWY, WHILE TURNING OFF THE RWY INTO A TXWY AT TOO HIGH OF SPD. HE WAS ATTEMPTING TO TURN OFF QUICKLY IN ORDER TO COMPLY WITH TWR'S REQUEST TO EXPEDITE LEAVING THE RWY DUE TFC ON FINAL.

AFTER LNDG WHILE STILL ON THE MAIN GEAR THE CTLR ASKED ME TO MAKE THE NEXT L TURN AND CONTACT GND. I BROUGHT THE TAIL DOWN AND MADE THE TURN WHICH WAS MORE THAN A 90 DEG TURN. WHEN I WENT AROUND THE CORNER I REALIZED I HAD TOO MUCH MOMENTUM AND WAS NOT GOING TO BE ABLE TO STOP THE TURN EVEN WITH HVY R BRAKING. I WENT OFF THE EDGE OF THE TXWY INTO THE GRASS WHERE I LOCKED THE L BRAKE TO SPIN THE TAIL COMPLETELY AROUND AND CAME TO A STOP FACING THE TXWY. (IE, 360 DEGS FROM ORIGINAL TURN.) ATC ASKED IF I NEEDED ASSISTANCE AND I REPLIED NO AND TAXIED BACK ON THE TXWY AND CONTACTED GND. I INFORMED THEM THAT I MAY HAVE HIT A TAXI LIGHT BUT DID NOT KNOW AND TAXIED TO THE RAMP. I CHK ACFT FOR ANY DAMAGE PAYING PARTICULAR ATTN TO PROPS AND FLAPS FOR DINGS OR DENTS BUT FOUND NONE. OF COURSE MY PLT EGO WAS PRETTY SORE. I HAVE TALKED TO MANY BE18 PLTS AND IT'S NOT THAT UNUSUAL TO LET THE AIRPLANE SPIN ON YOU (GND LOOP) RIGHT WHEN YOU ARE EXITING THE RWY IF YOU HAVE TOO MUCH SPD OR LET A HIGH RATE OF TURN DEVELOP. MY MISTAKE WAS IN THINKING I COULD MAKE THAT TXWY AND NOT TAKING THE NEXT DOWN THE LINE. AT ANY RATE, IN THE FUTURE I ONLY MAKE TURNS AT A SLOW TAXI SPD. THIS WAS EMBARRASSING BUT A GOOD LESSON FOR ME IN THE TWIN BEECH. I WAS FEELING A LITTLE OVER-CONFIDENT BUT NOW I PAY COMPLETE ATTN TO THE ACFT AT ALL TIMES IN FLT AND ON THE GND. ONE MORE POINT, I KNEW THERE WAS AN ACFT ON FINAL BEHIND ME SO I THOUGHT I WAS HELPING THE CTLR BY MAKING THIS PARTICULAR TXWY. WELL IN THE FUTURE, I ONLY WORRY ABOUT MY ACFT AND NOT WHAT THE CTLR IS DOING.
