Narrative:

Engine had a history of producing higher than target egt on takeoff. Target egt was about 30 degrees C under limit for takeoff. After takeoff we noticed that electronic egt had recorded an 'event.' we had exceeded maximum egt at some point during takeoff for 3 seconds. This engine with its history should never have left our maintenance base.
