Narrative:

On climb out from alb en route to atl on flight xx, we experienced a generator problem on #3 generator. The proper checklist was completed with no other problem with the generator. Shortly thereafter, climbing through FL190, we experienced an engine fire indication on the #3 engine. The proper checklist was again observed and followed which resulted in the following: shutdown #3 engine as per checklist, declared emergency, diverted to nearest suitable field (kennedy), and proceeded to dump fuel due to landing weight. During the dump procedure, the #3 dump valve would not open. The so maintained the proper fuel balance while dumping fuel. The aircraft was landed smoothly approximately 3000 pounds overweight. No further problems were encountered. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the aircraft was a B727-200 and when maintenance checked the #3 engine on the ground, there was no evidence of fire, but did have a shorted fire loop. The reporter advised it turned out to be a false fire warning but had to be handled as if the real thing.

Title: A B727-200 IN CLB AT FL190 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO A FIRE WARNING INDICATION ON #3 ENG WHICH AFTER A GND CHK PROVED TO BE A FALSE WARNING.

Narrative: ON CLBOUT FROM ALB ENRTE TO ATL ON FLT XX, WE EXPERIENCED A GENERATOR PROB ON #3 GENERATOR. THE PROPER CHKLIST WAS COMPLETED WITH NO OTHER PROB WITH THE GENERATOR. SHORTLY THEREAFTER, CLBING THROUGH FL190, WE EXPERIENCED AN ENG FIRE INDICATION ON THE #3 ENG. THE PROPER CHKLIST WAS AGAIN OBSERVED AND FOLLOWED WHICH RESULTED IN THE FOLLOWING: SHUTDOWN #3 ENG AS PER CHKLIST, DECLARED EMER, DIVERTED TO NEAREST SUITABLE FIELD (KENNEDY), AND PROCEEDED TO DUMP FUEL DUE TO LNDG WT. DURING THE DUMP PROC, THE #3 DUMP VALVE WOULD NOT OPEN. THE SO MAINTAINED THE PROPER FUEL BAL WHILE DUMPING FUEL. THE ACFT WAS LANDED SMOOTHLY APPROX 3000 LBS OVERWT. NO FURTHER PROBS WERE ENCOUNTERED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE ACFT WAS A B727-200 AND WHEN MAINT CHKED THE #3 ENG ON THE GND, THERE WAS NO EVIDENCE OF FIRE, BUT DID HAVE A SHORTED FIRE LOOP. THE RPTR ADVISED IT TURNED OUT TO BE A FALSE FIRE WARNING BUT HAD TO BE HANDLED AS IF THE REAL THING.
