Narrative:

Prior to ohpea intersection we had been cleared to deviate for thunderstorms. We were deviating south of airway for large wide cell sitting on top of ohpea right dead center of airway. Restr areas lie north and south of ohpea (narrow corridor). Controller advised us to turn immediately to heading that would put us right into thunderstorm. We advised him that we could not turn to that heading. He then said 'squawk 7700' of which we complied. We talked with him and made a 180 degree turn which put us away from active restr area. We then turned back east and with deviations rejoined AR8 southeast of ohpea. All deviating was done with close coordination with ATC.
