Narrative:

On takeoff out of albany, GA, we got a flap asymmetry just after rotation. We continued, did all appropriate procedures and checklists, consulted runway analysis and flight control. The checklist says to land as soon as possible. We chose to land in macon, GA, because the long runway in albany was closed. We had to land with flaps 15 degrees and we had 1200 ft more runway in macon and by the time we completed all checklists, runway analysis, etc, we were almost as close to macon as we were to albany. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: the reporter stated the cause of the asymmetry warning was caused by the failure of the right nacelle flap actuator. He stated no rolling motion was felt and aircraft was ctlable. He also advises having several experiences with asymmetry problems where the left outboard, nacelle, and inboard will lag or lead the right outboard, nacelle and inboard flaps causing asymmetry warning and shutoff between 25 degrees and 45 degrees of flap travel. The reporter was not contacted by the FAA.

Title: AN EMB120 DECLARED AN EMER AND DIVERTED DUE TO A TRAILING EDGE FLAP ASYMMETRY WARNING CAUSED BY A FAILED NACELLE FLAP ACTUATOR.

Narrative: ON TKOF OUT OF ALBANY, GA, WE GOT A FLAP ASYMMETRY JUST AFTER ROTATION. WE CONTINUED, DID ALL APPROPRIATE PROCS AND CHKLISTS, CONSULTED RWY ANALYSIS AND FLT CTL. THE CHKLIST SAYS TO LAND ASAP. WE CHOSE TO LAND IN MACON, GA, BECAUSE THE LONG RWY IN ALBANY WAS CLOSED. WE HAD TO LAND WITH FLAPS 15 DEGS AND WE HAD 1200 FT MORE RWY IN MACON AND BY THE TIME WE COMPLETED ALL CHKLISTS, RWY ANALYSIS, ETC, WE WERE ALMOST AS CLOSE TO MACON AS WE WERE TO ALBANY. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: THE RPTR STATED THE CAUSE OF THE ASYMMETRY WARNING WAS CAUSED BY THE FAILURE OF THE R NACELLE FLAP ACTUATOR. HE STATED NO ROLLING MOTION WAS FELT AND ACFT WAS CTLABLE. HE ALSO ADVISES HAVING SEVERAL EXPERIENCES WITH ASYMMETRY PROBS WHERE THE L OUTBOARD, NACELLE, AND INBOARD WILL LAG OR LEAD THE R OUTBOARD, NACELLE AND INBOARD FLAPS CAUSING ASYMMETRY WARNING AND SHUTOFF BTWN 25 DEGS AND 45 DEGS OF FLAP TRAVEL. THE RPTR WAS NOT CONTACTED BY THE FAA.
