Narrative:

The foothills VORTAC (odf) near toccoa, GA, has been OTS for almost a week. This VORTAC is a major component of the macey STAR (attached). The macey STAR is the busiest and most complex STAR at ZTL that feeds the atlanta hartsfield airport. There is substantial holding (excess of 30 mins) daily on the arrival and the odf outages has increased the workload tremendously. The odf VORTAC is needed for the bebad intersection, which is the secondary holding fix on the arrival. Also, during periods of inclement WX, like thunderstorm season now, odf plays a very important role in the make-up of unpublished holding patterns that are far from atlanta. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following information: reporter stated the VORTAC was OTS for about 3 weeks. After returning to service, the VORTAC was OTS for about 6 hours before returning to service. Reporter indicated the VORTAC was operating normally. Reporter is unaware of what the problem was with the equipment.

Narrative: THE FOOTHILLS VORTAC (ODF) NEAR TOCCOA, GA, HAS BEEN OTS FOR ALMOST A WK. THIS VORTAC IS A MAJOR COMPONENT OF THE MACEY STAR (ATTACHED). THE MACEY STAR IS THE BUSIEST AND MOST COMPLEX STAR AT ZTL THAT FEEDS THE ATLANTA HARTSFIELD ARPT. THE ODF VORTAC IS NEEDED FOR THE BEBAD INTXN, WHICH IS THE SECONDARY HOLDING FIX ON THE ARR. ALSO, DURING PERIODS OF INCLEMENT WX, LIKE TSTM SEASON NOW, ODF PLAYS A VERY IMPORTANT ROLE IN THE MAKE-UP OF UNPUBLISHED HOLDING PATTERNS THAT ARE FAR FROM ATLANTA. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH RPTR REVEALED THE FOLLOWING INFO: RPTR STATED THE VORTAC WAS OTS FOR ABOUT 3 WKS. AFTER RETURNING TO SVC, THE VORTAC WAS OTS FOR ABOUT 6 HRS BEFORE RETURNING TO SVC. RPTR INDICATED THE VORTAC WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. RPTR IS UNAWARE OF WHAT THE PROB WAS WITH THE EQUIP.
