Narrative:

At clt, cleared to taxi to runway 18L from spot X. Instead of taking taxiway M, captain taxied via ramp towards taxiway C11. Realizing his mistake, he stopped. I called ground control and said we were turning back to taxiway M. I thought ground said 'if continuing on ramp, contact ramp at spot B.' since we went back to taxiway M, I stayed with ground control. Ground then said that we were supposed to contact ramp at spot B. He then cleared us to taxi to runway 18L, via taxiway M. This was a communication breakdown between us and ground control.
