Narrative:

IFR flight plan from pie to bmw. ATC didn't provide reported field conditions, but referred to AWOS frequency prior to approach. First time use of AWOS. Shot approach despite recording indicating below minimums (already there!). Should have had information sooner. After miss, informed ATC only 30 mins of fuel left and need closer airport, then filed mcn (45 mins away). Advised by ATC that pdk had folks getting in. I requested pdk. Confusion getting proper approach plate. Initially found peachtree fulton county, finally got pdk. Successfully completed ILS runway 20L at pdk despite lack of DME. Single pilot workload and delays -- only able to get/assimilate localizer frequency and MDA and fly aircraft. Fuel down to unusable level with 5 hours 10 mins total flight duration. Forecasts were better than actual after passing mcn. I was slow to realize this. Headwinds from northwest made fuel critical. Should never have made the first approach. Need to ask for deviation sooner.

Title: GA SMA PLT ATTEMPTS APCH BMW WHEN AWOS RPT SHOWS BELOW MINIMUMS. EXECUTES MISSED APCH AND IS TOO SHORT OF FUEL TO GO TO PLANNED ALT. ZTL ADVISES ACFT ARE LNDG AT PDK AND RPTR IS ABLE TO MAKE PDK WITH AVAILABLE FUEL.

Narrative: IFR FLT PLAN FROM PIE TO BMW. ATC DIDN'T PROVIDE RPTED FIELD CONDITIONS, BUT REFERRED TO AWOS FREQ PRIOR TO APCH. FIRST TIME USE OF AWOS. SHOT APCH DESPITE RECORDING INDICATING BELOW MINIMUMS (ALREADY THERE!). SHOULD HAVE HAD INFO SOONER. AFTER MISS, INFORMED ATC ONLY 30 MINS OF FUEL LEFT AND NEED CLOSER ARPT, THEN FILED MCN (45 MINS AWAY). ADVISED BY ATC THAT PDK HAD FOLKS GETTING IN. I REQUESTED PDK. CONFUSION GETTING PROPER APCH PLATE. INITIALLY FOUND PEACHTREE FULTON COUNTY, FINALLY GOT PDK. SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETED ILS RWY 20L AT PDK DESPITE LACK OF DME. SINGLE PLT WORKLOAD AND DELAYS -- ONLY ABLE TO GET/ASSIMILATE LOC FREQ AND MDA AND FLY ACFT. FUEL DOWN TO UNUSABLE LEVEL WITH 5 HRS 10 MINS TOTAL FLT DURATION. FORECASTS WERE BETTER THAN ACTUAL AFTER PASSING MCN. I WAS SLOW TO REALIZE THIS. HEADWINDS FROM NW MADE FUEL CRITICAL. SHOULD NEVER HAVE MADE THE FIRST APCH. NEED TO ASK FOR DEV SOONER.
