Narrative:

On approach to iah runway 8, observed red nose gear unsafe light on upon gear extension. Preformed tower fly-by, declared emergency, rolled equipment, contacted air carrier X maintenance (iah), performed manual gear extension per QRH, got 3 green lights with no red, resumed second approach to iah runway 8, landed without incident. Parked aircraft on high speed taxiway, had air carrier X maintenance come out to runway and pin gear. Taxied to gate and shut down. Made logbook entry, captain's irregularity report and contacted air carrier X operations control officer.

Title: FLC OF A B737-300 DECLARED AN EMER WHEN THE RED UNSAFE NOSEWHEEL LIGHT WAS ON AFTER PUTTING THE GEAR DOWN ON FINAL APCH FOR LNDG. THE CREW SUBSEQUENTLY PUT THE GEAR DOWN MANUALLY AND FLEW BY THE TWR FOR THEIR OBSERVATION AND LANDED WITHOUT FURTHER INCIDENT.
