Narrative:

IFR at 11000 ft in area with turbulence in and out of clouds. Moderate turbulence. Heavy rain. Piper lance was on the airway and entered the thunderstorm and experienced a major upset. Aircraft presumably flipped on back and recovery techniques started. Recovered about 8000 ft in a high speed descent. Center advised of departure from 11000 ft and subsequent recovery of the aircraft. Center offered vectors to nearest suitable airport, but this was not needed and landed at jax uneventfully.

Title: PLT OF PA32 LANCE AT 11000 FT LOSES CTL OF ACFT AFTER ENTERING A TSTM IN THEIR PATH, ON THE AIRWAY. RECOVERY MADE AT 8000 FT. HUSBAND WAS AN OBSERVER WITH CONSIDERABLY MORE FLT TIME THAN PLT.

Narrative: IFR AT 11000 FT IN AREA WITH TURB IN AND OUT OF CLOUDS. MODERATE TURB. HVY RAIN. PIPER LANCE WAS ON THE AIRWAY AND ENTERED THE TSTM AND EXPERIENCED A MAJOR UPSET. ACFT PRESUMABLY FLIPPED ON BACK AND RECOVERY TECHNIQUES STARTED. RECOVERED ABOUT 8000 FT IN A HIGH SPD DSCNT. CTR ADVISED OF DEP FROM 11000 FT AND SUBSEQUENT RECOVERY OF THE ACFT. CTR OFFERED VECTORS TO NEAREST SUITABLE ARPT, BUT THIS WAS NOT NEEDED AND LANDED AT JAX UNEVENTFULLY.
