Narrative:

When I fly into tex airport it is typically VFR flight conditions. It is a difficult airport to land at with the tremendous mountains close by. I also avoid clouds in this area because of icing dangers. However, I chose not to cancel my IFR clearance until after I landed. There was traffic in the area and I felt that center could help me avoid traffic. Normally, I would have canceled in the air upon seeing the airport. I conclude that doing something out of the ordinary was the cause of my forgetfulness.

Title: PLT OF A C421B FORGOT TO CLOSE HER IFR FLT PLAN WITH CTR DURING LNDG OR TAXI IN RESULTING IN A SEARCH BY FAA FOR HER WHEREABOUTS.

Narrative: WHEN I FLY INTO TEX ARPT IT IS TYPICALLY VFR FLT CONDITIONS. IT IS A DIFFICULT ARPT TO LAND AT WITH THE TREMENDOUS MOUNTAINS CLOSE BY. I ALSO AVOID CLOUDS IN THIS AREA BECAUSE OF ICING DANGERS. HOWEVER, I CHOSE NOT TO CANCEL MY IFR CLRNC UNTIL AFTER I LANDED. THERE WAS TFC IN THE AREA AND I FELT THAT CTR COULD HELP ME AVOID TFC. NORMALLY, I WOULD HAVE CANCELED IN THE AIR UPON SEEING THE ARPT. I CONCLUDE THAT DOING SOMETHING OUT OF THE ORDINARY WAS THE CAUSE OF MY FORGETFULNESS.
